China Travel Galleries

I had been in China for 4 years before I thought to take photography seriously. There were so many amazing sights. Once I bought a Canon 450d for my birthday in 2009, those amazing sights became some amazing shots. Some caught. Some missed. Here are my collections of some of my favorite images while traveling in China.

Zigui Trip

In 2012, I traveled an hour north to the small town of Zigui. This is the purported hometown of the ancient poet, Qu Yuan. His real hometown was most likely submerged under the reservoir created by the Three Gorges dam project seen in the picture above.

Guangzhou, China

In the summer of 2014, I travelled to southern China. as the guest of my students' parents. There were 5 families in all.

For Spring Festival 2015, I went to Shanghai. The city was quite empty as most of the residents of Shanghai return to their hometowns for the Chinese New Year celebrations.

In the summer of 2010, I took a solo trip to Yunnan province in southwest China. Here I took many great photos and just recently (Fall 2016) have I re-edited them for this site.

Hong Kong

In the summer of 2014, I took a short trip to Hong Kong with a 16mm-35mm L series that I borrowed from a friend.

While transitioning from China to Vietnam, I spent 3 weeks in Gao Xiong, Taiwan. Here is a collection of my favorite images.

Shen Nong Jia

In the mountains of Hubei Province, there is a small ski resort. I have very few skills in the slopes but I know how to adjust the white balance on my camera to expose correctly for snow.

New Year's Pig--Three Gorges Dam Area

2014 got started with a ceremonial pig slaughter. In all of my years in China, I had never known this to be a thing. I had never expected to be invited to such a party. In 2014, I got to witness the "New Year's Pig" slaughter twice.

Orange Picking

When Leonard Cohen sang about a girl who fed him tea and oranges that came all the way from China, he might have been referring to the sour sweetness of these golden orbs.

Qu Yuan Temple--Hubei Province China

This temple in Dan Yang, situated in Hubei Province, was built in honor of an ancient warrior from the Three Kingdoms period of China. I prepared my students to give short oral presentations on some of the important sites at the temple.
