Early Spring?

It is like there is no winter in central China this year. Shot on January 2nd this year, this plant sees no reason to wait to ready its little seeds.

Not showing its prettiest side, the 丝瓜, one of the many Chinese vegetables that I cannot translate, is something between a zucchini and a cucumber. Finding poetic beauty in living things dead on the vine is NOT a commentary on my own middle-age. Perhaps just a warning to self.

Light through the kitchen window illuminated the cakes of tofu sitting on the kitchen counter. Lunch was being prepared.
