Teaching in China

Sometimes I tell people I taught English in China for 8 years. Other times I tell them that I taught English in China for one year eight times.  I stayed in one city in China for so long because teaching is only one part of the learning process. I really enjoyed seeing the students grow, see them from year to year, and eventually getting stopped on the street by a six foot tall teenager who remembers me teaching him in primary school.

In fact, it was in the summer of 2009 that I decided to buy my first DSLR and start taking photography serious as a way of recording the wonderful experiences at the school and around China.

Hyde Training Center

In 2007, I made my way to Yichang City in Hubei Province. I turned down a position in Fuzhou because the school was rundown and team assembles to teach IELTS there was less than inspiring.

The high school that I worked for immediately farmed us out to a local training center.

For the next eight years I would work at the Hyde English Training Center.

Foreign Language Kindergarten

For the 2012-2013 school year I was the sole foreign teacher of the three age levels at three campuses of the Foreign Language Kindergarten. These were 20 to 30 minute lessons that I designed and taught for 4 and 5 year old students.

The following two years, there was another foreign teacher to take on the workload. There were lots of great events for the students throughout the year.
