VIDEO: Unusual Foods
When the opportunity to do something exciting with a text arrises, I will take that opportunity. I always demand that the students work hard for me and so the pressure is on me to design a lesson that takes the ache out of working hard. I found the perfect thing when we were reading, "Ollie Don't Eat That," from our student book.
The story described a boy who has been running a blog about all of the unusual foods that he had eaten. His father came back from a business trip in Colombia and brought him ant eggs. He has eaten spiders from Cambodia. He has even tried a hamburger in a can. Not everything he has eaten was unappealing though. He writes about all of these adventures with food in his little blog.
Rather than giving a standard presentation on the text, I recorded a talkshow style presentation with my students. I brought a couple different chili peppers, a bulb of garlic, strange candies, and durian fruit.
