Video: Classroom Montage
I am impressed by students who come to study on a Saturday night. Some of the students come to class in their school uniforms, which tells me that they have been studying all day. And why not. Students should be consumed with study. They have a long life ahead of them and if they build a strong foundation, while they are young, then they have a lot of time to bask in the sun when they are older.
I have a fairly large class on Saturday night. 22 students come for oral English class. The core of the class has worked with me for a long time and so I have gotten to know then pretty well. I keep the class energetic by having them do group work. In fact, the only to complete speaking tests in one period is to have them work in pairs. Testing in pairs will also help them during the Cambridge exams.. For that test, they have to improvise a dialogue with a classmate.
After they read the story and practice their comprehension, I have them do group work where one student role-plays as the teacher. I will have them switch groups. This creates a social aspect to class and gives them a chances to practice the material without it feeling monotonous.
They students enjoy getting out of their desks. They are much more comfortable talking in their way.
In October, I had them practice like this and recorded LivePhotos. I then took the short video clips and stitched them into a video with music.
