This a video I put together from the Whale festival at the end of September. I was fortunate enough to learn about this annual celebration of a animist god of the Vietnamese people in fishing communities.
I missed the pre-dawn ceremony at the beach but instead waited at the mausoleum downtown where an funeral procession from the beach to the mausoleum took place that reenacted the manner in which a whale carcass or bones would be honored and brought to the temple.
I then took pictures inside the temple where a story, told through dance, took place.
I had never heard of this festival before and found it to be a special glimpse into a side of Vietnamese culture that most outsiders have never heard of.
