Landscape photography has not been one of my major interests over he past few years. My friend Jason, who is not a photography enthusiast, takes much better landscape photographs than me. He also loves being out in nature and can sit by the shore and stare out to the sea for extended periods of time. His photos possess vision and he is able to capture, in a photo, more than what I am even able to see on my own.
With that said, I have been about to capture some truly eye catching moments. Then it is a matter of setting the right exposure and composing the shot well.
Dang Yang--Yu Quan Temple
Forested area outside of the temple area in Dang Yang County, Hubei Province. Shot in January 2016. More images from this trip can be found in the Yichang: Regional Travel section
Dang Yang, China
Dang Yang, China
Along the Qing Jiang River in Yidu, Hubei Province China, fishermen raise fish in these aqua farms. This photo was taken on a ferry rise from the mainland to a small island.
Fisherman along the Qing Jiang River stay in this floating homes as they tend their fish in holding tanks. December 2014
Hana in the Early Morning
Hana, Maui--Taken around 6:30 PM, the morning sun waits for no one. I was having trouble getting a good exposure with the morning sun rising over the ocean. I might have benefitted using a neutral density filter, essentially sunglasses for a camera lens.
Then I noticed how beautiful the sky was reflecting in this puddle.
Seaside, Koh Phayam
Facing the Andaman on the western coast of Thailand is the sleepy island of Koh Phayam. Squid and Barracuda are favorite treats in these waters. Over the 9 days I was here, no two sunsets were the same.
Moonrise, Shen Nong Jia
Hubei Province, China--Blue skies in China are never taken for granted. Especial in January when coal choking air means that Lunar New Year fireworks have no noticeable effect on the air. At the end of the day, in the mountains of Shen Nong Jia, the beautiful moonrise made the whole trip worthwile.
Mountain Farm House
On the way to shennongjia, the mountain road is beautiful and demands respect as it gets icier and slipper with few guard rails the higher we climb.
Farm houses like this in the remote mountain seem peaceful and perfectly serene for winter hibernation from the rest of the world.
But I am sure on closer inspection, the romance of remote mountain living gives way to some bitter realities.
Yidu, Hubei Province
The gray sky casts a dream-like quality over the water as the mountains reflect into the river. The red lantern hanging from the boat is the only indication that this image is in fact not a black and white shot.
